"Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed."  Psalm 82:3

In January of 1995 the dream began to take form in the shape of a Children’s Home.  Gary teamed up with an Indian ministry called Bethel Ministries. Bethel is an independent Christian ministry with many outreach churches in remote villages.

In October of 1995 Gary and his wife, Connie, took a giant step of faith to start a Children’s Home. A building was rented in Vijayawada, a city in southern India.  Three Indian brothers, Christopher, Emmanuel and Jesupadom Raju supervise the home and select the children for acceptance. The brothers worked with pastors in the remote villages of South Central India because these pastors know the children with the greatest need for help. By December of 1995 the children began arriving, there were 13 boys and 3 girls, ranging in age from 6 to 13 years of age.  Hope In The Night Children's Home now houses over 50 children and is growing as additional funding is provided.

When a child enters the home they are given two sets of clothes, a bed to sleep in and three nourishing meals each and every day. These are three things these children have never had up to this point of their young lives.  The responsibility to care for the children does not stop there. They also receive medical attention, education and daily Christian training.  Besides the children themselves, five Indian Christian adults are employed by the home. The staff  includes a college certified school teacher, a watchman, a cook, a cleaning person and a housemother. The Indian pastors and their families also volunteer daily in the home.

In February of 2000 Hope In The Night opened computer school for the children in the slums of Mumbai.  On the west side of India in Mumbai, Hope in the Night sponsors medical camps in the inner city.  A Women's Training Center has also been started to help the local Indian women provide income for their families.  They are taught to have a knowledge of tailoring and also how to hand paint silk scarves.  In 2005 Hope in the Night started a buffalo for pastors program, giving a milking buffalo to remote village pastors, that will fully support that pastor in his ministry.  As of January 2008, over 24 pastors have been given milking buffalo.  In Decembr 2007, brand new blankets were distributed to the homeless children and adults in the slums of Mumbai; this will be an ongoing ministry during each of Gary's trips to India.

It is a joy to see what God has done and continues to do through this ministry.  There is great excitement as we look forward to what God has planned for Hope In The Night Ministries!
